Quick Share was born as Samsung’s alternative to Apple’s AirDrop. Using this tool, you can share files quickly and securely between Samsung Galaxy devices, and over time, Google partnered with Samsung to replace Android Nearby Share with Quick Share as the new sharing system between Android devices.
However, Samsung continues to add exclusive features for the Samsung Galaxy. This is the case of the new feature Quick Share Private Sharewhich lets you add more protection to the files we share and limit what people can do with them after they receive them. Below, we explain how it works and how to use it.
How to Use Quick Share Private Sharing Feature on a Samsung Galaxy
Private sharing allows you to add restrictions to the files we share via Quick Share between Samsung phones and tablets. For example, we can add an expiration date to the file so that the recipient I can only see it for a limited time.
Likewise, activating this function also the ability to take a screenshot and share this file is blocked. In other words, if we send a photo or video to another person, the person who receives it will not be able to share it again or even take a screenshot. In addition, the files are usually encrypted so that only the recipients can open them.
Share privately is now available for Samsung Galaxy mobile and tablet users. The feature has been added to Quick Share in the background, so you can already start using it on your mobile. The feature is compatible with Samsung devices with Android 10 and One UI 2.1 or higher.
To send images, videos or files with this level of protection, follow these steps:
- We select the file that we are going to share (it can be images or videos from the gallery, or documents from the Samsung My Files application)
- We press the share button and select Quick Share
- On the next screen, we tap the three-dot button in the upper right corner and then select Enable private sharing
- Finally, we can set an expiration by clicking on the button which, by default, indicates that the file can only be opened for 2 days
And that’s it. The person who receives the file will only have it for the period we have chosen and will not be able to share it with anyone else. Up to 20 files can be shared simultaneously, or up to 200 MB, according to Samsung’s announcement.
It’s necessary enable this option every time we want to use itsince it does not remain enabled by default in the Quick Share options menu, because most likely the majority of files we send do not need to be encrypted or have this type of protection.
