Major music platforms such as Spotify or Apple Music already offer song lyrics as they play. In fact, Apple went a step further with the release of iOS 16.2 by integrating Apple Music Sing, a karaoke feature that muffles singers’ voices. Now on YouTube they seem to be looking for something similar for their platform, but not so much in terms of karaoke as having real-time lyrics.

And we know that YouTube Music is preparing to adapt song lyrics as they play so they are highlighted in real time. Although, yes, at the moment it doesn’t appear that its testing extends to mobile devices or devices such as the Nest Hub, but to a specific version of Chromecast which may well be only part of the test .

At the moment it is only tested on Chromecast Ultra

It was back in October when, as 9to5Google reports, YouTube Music started embedding song lyrics into many other titles. Although, yes, in a static way and the user is the one who must follow them so as not to get lost and know where the song is progressing. Now they seem to want go further and compete with your competitors regarding this feature.

On Reddit, a user report could be found confirming that YouTube Music was testing the new real-time lyrics on Chromecast Ultra. At this time it has not been revealed if the test is carried out on other devices, although it is very likely that if the feature continues to progress it will also eventually land on other Chromecast models and in the respective mobile applications of the Platform.

In the attached image you can see an interface which, as the Reddit user tells us, sounds a lot like what Apple Music offers in its lyrics. On the left is the lyrics highlighting the part of the song currently playing and on the right is the album cover with the song title and artist below.

Other details that are discussed are that the main interface background also matches the album cover, albeit blurry. The font appears to be the same as the rest of the YouTube Music interface and a list of accredited composers appears at the end of the listening session as songwriters.

In all cases, we will have to wait to see if this function ends up prospering. At a time when streaming music platforms share more and more catalogs and functions, these small differences can end up being decisive for the choice.
