If you are one of those who watch videos or listen to podcasts on YouTube before going to sleepYou are not alone. Many users usually use this platform at bedtime, whether it is to watch a long video, a documentary, a concert or even to listen to ASMR videos and thus relax.
But ideally, we don’t want this playback to stay active all night, since the platform will be switching between videos. Now, YouTube has added a new timer to stop videos from playing after the chosen time has elapsed.
The new timer is now available, but for now only for a limited time
This is an experimental feature, at least for now, which means that it will only be available for a limited time during testing, although in the future we hope to see this feature reach all users of the platform. However, If you are a YouTube Premium user, you can now try ityou just need to go to this link and enable this experimental YouTube feature.
The timer is available in YouTube mobile app and desktop version. Its operation is simple, but effective: after activating the timer, the video playback will stop when the set time has elapsed, so that we can continue sleeping or doing whatever without playing more videos.
To access the timer on mobile devices, press the gear button while playing a video on YouTube and then select Additional settingsin this menu we will see the timer option.
In the desktop version of YouTube, the process is even simpler: just tap the gear-shaped button to open the playback options menu, and Click on Sleep Timer. Next, we need to select the time we want to spend until the video stops: 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes or until the end of the video.
If, like me, you’re used to putting a video in the background, or even turning off the screen to just enjoy the audio of videos focused on ambient sounds like rain or waves on a beach as you fall asleep, this feature is great for stopping playback on its own. For now, Sleep Timer will only be available to YouTube Premium users until September 2, but we hope to see this feature reach all users in the future.
