Deus Ex / Hitman / Lara Croft GO

We’ll begin our mobile walking tour with a series of three games developed by Square Enix’s Montreal Studios. Offshoots of the western flagship franchises of the Japanese publisher Deus Ex GO, Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO are puzzle games that are divided into short levels of difficulty. Square Enix Montreal is inspired by the aforementioned sagas to create seemingly peaceful experiences made up of increasingly daring puzzles that will challenge puzzle enthusiasts. Between assassinations, looting of graves and computer hacking, the importance of deduction becomes an important weapon.

Gray

Gray is an adventure and platform game developed by Spanish studios Nomada, founded by two former Ubisoft employees and published by Devolver Digital. The title tells the epic of a young girl named Gray in a dreamlike world in 2D. The latter tries to overcome a painful personal experience and strives on its journey to rebuild itself on a physical and psychological level. Gris is both visually and sonically an enchantment, a melancholy adventure that metaphorically expresses the evolution of a being through its gameplay and color palette.

Monument Valley

The mobile phone is the ideal medium to (re) discover a genre … that of puzzle games. Short, tagged sessions suit the consumption habits of this type of media, and Monument Valley is the perfect exponent of the genre on iOS and Android. The title, developed by ustwo studios, plays with perspectives and optical illusions to create a series of increasingly complex puzzles. Monument Valley is an invitation to travel back in time, far from any notion of reality. Even if the short break may seem short, it is still a breath of fresh air. Note that the Ida’s Dream and Forgotten Shores DLC extends this famous lifespan.

Pest Inc.

In order to stay on the topic of the global health crisis during the holidays, here comes Plague Inc., a pandemic management simulator experienced from the perspective of the virus. The game developed by Ndemic Creations puts you at the head of a pathogen with the declared aim of spreading it over a wide area and ultimately of the complete extermination of mankind. Behind a clear concept hides an original strategy game with a remarkable lifespan. Despite the in-app purchases required to unlock all of the available scenarios, Plague Inc. is a must-have mobile experience.

Reign: Game of Thrones

Two years after the release of Reigns, a management game with Tinder-inspired gameplay, a spin-off is born. Nerial Studios and publisher Devolver Digital surf in 2018 on the success of the HBO series Game of Thrones and reject their monarchical concept in Reigns: Game of Thrones. Players are driven into the middle of a power struggle between the great houses of Westeros. From weddings to conspiracies, from betrayals to alliances, the choices made during an adventure with a distinct 2D style will allow the elect to take their place on the Iron Throne and rule the continent.

Between us

No need to introduce Among Us, a party game that originally launched in 2018 and then became popular in 2020 thanks to streamers and other Youtubers. For several months, players have been killing each other on PCs, home consoles and mobile phones. The concept of the game is simple. A crew that in the past consisted of 4 to 10 members must perform various tasks while surviving the crooks who have sneaked under them. The summer of 2021 will be synonymous with content with the introduction of the hide and seek mode, two new roles (sheriff and scientist) and the expansion of the player limit from 10 to 15.

Dragon Ball Legends

Dragon Ball Legends is a combat-oriented card game derived from the cult work of Akira Toriyama, which was published after Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battke. The title published by Bandai Namco for iOS and Android allows you to assemble your team by drawing the iconic characters of the saga and then fighting in real time in 3D arenas. Dragon Ball Legends is a gatcha (free-to-play) that includes in-app purchases and plays the fan service card all the way. Its free dimension does not prevent this new adaptation of Dragon Ball from hitting the mark and seducing collectors.

GeoGuessr

Strictly speaking, GeoGuessr is not a video game, although its playful dimension is undeniable. The edutainment application developed by Anton Wallen enables anyone to check their geography and put their knowledge of the world to the test. The concept is based on geolocating a photo to the nearest meter and at the same time as close as possible to the real position. There is even a battle royale mode available only to paid players, where multiple people search for the answer as quickly as possible. The last player is eliminated every round.

League of Legends: Wild Rift

It took 11 years for the most famous MOBA (for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) to officially land on iOS and Android. League of Legends: Wild Rift is not a simple port, but an adaptation for mobile devices. Riot Games is fully reviewing its copy to adapt it to these new platforms. The studios modify the selection of heroes as well as the interfaces, rethink the controls (here touchscreen and controller) and reduce the playing time while maintaining the essence of LoL. Despite a lower content compared to the PC version, LoL: Wild Rift is the ideal compromise between challenging gameplay and accessibility.

Super Mario Run

What if the most famous video game plumber accompanied you on your vacation? Mario, Nintendo’s iconic mascot, will have waited several years before venturing into cell phones, but that wait was wholesome. As the name suggests, Super Mario Run is a runner, a platform game with simplified gameplay in which the mustached hero runs automatically. Even if the available content may seem small with only 24 levels, they perfectly reflect the feeling and the colorful universe of a “Mario” game.
