Yesterday’s June Nintendo Direct (June 21st) was packed, especially for Mario fans, who received as many as five announcements related to the classic franchise. One of them is a new game featuring Princess Peach on her own adventure.
This isn’t a first for Princess Peach, who got her own game on the Nintendo DS back in 2005, aptly titled “Super Princess Peach.” In this game, Peaches saves Mario and Luigi for the first time, and contrary to the usual tropes we’ve seen in Mario games, Peaches is hiding in Bowser’s castle.
Super Princess Peach plays a lot like a Mario platformer, but like Yoshi and his eggs, she has her own gimmicks to exploit, like Parasol Perry and her emotions. Honestly, I remember playing this game on Yoshi’s Island DS as a kid and it was a good time.
The release of the new Super Princess Peach game was also accompanied by a remake of Super Mario RPG, the Switch version of Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, a game called Super Mario Bros. New 2D Mario game. Marvel, and a new WarioWare game! Wow. It looks like Mario fans will be in for a treat this year and beyond.
While we could see in the trailer shown at the Nintendo Direct that the new Princess Peach game will look very different, it wouldn’t be surprising if it was her turn to save the plumbing duo again. The trailer itself shows Peaches using magic to deal with enemies, then standing in a specific spot on stage as her outfit changes. Not sure what’s going on there.
The unnamed game also doesn’t have a release date, but it has a release window of 2024. As such, we’ll no doubt hear more details about the new Princess Peach game at future Nintendo Directs. I’m desperate for a new game with Princess Peach at the helm, though I sincerely hope that Parasol Perry returns in one way or another.
What do you think of the new princess peach game? Is there anything in particular you would like to see?
