Alto’s Odyssey
A mountainous endless runner, Alto’s Odyssey features frenetic snowboard descents along snow-capped mountains in a bid to catch up with your lost llamas. The player progresses through a variety of environments including villages, ruins, and forests. Of course, you must progress while being careful to avoid the pitfalls along the way. Getting started is easy: tap your screen and your character will levitate straight into the air to perform tricks. Your score then depends on the number of llamas collected, coins collected and tricks lined up. At release we rated the game 17/20: “Alto’s Adventure offers a real moment of tranquility on your smartphone and literally transports you into his universe. Meticulous in its implementation, simple in its use, it must be seen as a relaxing journey that we like to do and repeat for its atmosphere and few challenges.
Heaven: Children of the Light
Developed by Thatgamecompany, to whom we already owe Journey and Flower, Sky: Children of the Light invites you to embody Children of the Light, responsible for spreading hope in a forsaken kingdom. You must recover lost stars and return them to their constellations by exploring seven dreamlike realms and their mysteries. The hovering experience is consistently focused on social interactions between players. In fact, you’ll encounter dozens of other players during your explorations, communicating with them through little tunes, emotes, gifts, and even more direct dialogue. We rated the game 16/20 at the time: “Deeper than it seems, yet fiendishly intuitive, it takes us on a relaxing journey where discovering secrets and sharing with strangers will be your finest motivations.”
Sutom
You’ve probably already noticed that Wordle is a hit on social media, especially on Twitter. The principle is as follows: A word of the day is to be guessed. The title immediately inspired a French version, Sutom, which allows you to play with words from our dictionary in an interface naturally reminiscent of Motus. You have a total of six ways to suggest the correct word, with the game showing the correct but misplaced letters of the suggested word in yellow and those that are in the correct place in green. The concept is as simple as it is addicting and only takes a few seconds if you don’t have time to play.
My friend Pedro: ripe for revenge
Free-to-play spin-off of the title My Friend Pedro, Ripe for Revenge is an action game with 37 levels that offers you the opportunity to switch between platforming stages, 2D shooters and stages in vehicles, on board a motorcycle or even a skateboard. The title puts you in the shoes of Pedro’s friend in a race against time. The latter is left to die while his children and wife are kidnapped. You must then help him get revenge. From here on, your mission is to use your environment to defeat your enemies and get Pedro’s family safe and sound. Players must combine “agility and creativity” through phases with no downtime. The game system is based on jumps to help you move through the different levels.
League of Legends: Wild Rift
League of Legends, Wild Rift simply brings the LoL experience to mobile. The principle remains the same here: two teams of 5 players compete on a map consisting of 3 lanes and a jungle. Participants are tasked with destroying enemy defense towers and paving the way to the Nexus, which, once destroyed, promises victory. The duration of the games is about fifteen minutes, so ideal for a mobile session. The experience was very successful when it was released in 2020, which is why we gave it an 18/20 rating: “The games of this mobile version are more accessible, shorter and less frustrating and could be a perfect compromise for gamers who have exited LoL and its grueling games or those who have been left on the sidelines by its demanding requirements.“
Genshin Impact
It’s hard to talk about mobile games without mentioning the free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact, developed by MiHoYo and whose popularity is well established. Basically, nearly 300 people and $100 million have been invested in this ambitious project. The story takes place in the world of Teyvat, which has been corrupted by humans after receiving civilization as a gift from the gods. A game that knows how to expand with regular updates and that’s why we rated it 17/20 a year after its release: “Genshin Impact is a genre staple a year later. Very (very!) generous in content, with sublime graphics and incredible staging, MiHoyo’s RPG gacha has overcome our prejudices and has become a game of rare quality, no matter what platform you develop on.“
Crash Bandicoot: On the Run!
Free-to-play mobile runner set in the Bandicoot universe, Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! invites you to face bosses you’ve already met in episodes of the saga on consoles, craft your own weapons to defeat them and even create your own character. 50 bosses (Scorporilla, Nitrus Brio, Nina Cortex, Dingodile…) and twelve locations (Turtle Woods, Lost City, Temple Ruins…) are on the program, with the promise of a hundred hours of playtime Run, slide, jump and… destroy crates at the controls of the emblematic characters of the license to complete the different levels. Activision and King’s creation, available on the App Store and Google Play since 2021, has generated more than half a million dollars in its first week of operation.
