Mass Effect has counted from its beginnings on a system of morality that changed the relations between our character and his companions, as well as his behavior. The biggest effect of that was perhaps in the second installment of the original trilogy, where the final mission depended on that and many more factors.
In the third installment, however, the end depended on a decision, which was also based on morality, but was independent of all the decisions we had already made so far. In Mass Effect Andromeda this option was removed

The future of Mass Effect is still uncertain, since it is assumed that there is a game in development of the saga, although little or nothing we know about it.
