Less than a month after its release, Black Myth Wukong is already making news with a big surprise taking shape, but one with potentially high stakes.
Black Myth Wukong had a truly explosive start, which clearly gave wings to its studio, Game Science. According to the latest rumors, the first AAA game could be entitled to two DLCs and a sequel. The first expansion in particular is making headlines again, with its release apparently imminent. However, it may not be as successful this time.
The adventure of Black Myth Wukong continues, but in a smaller group?
Black Myth Wukong was released on August 19 for PC and PS5 and made headlines with over 20 million sales in just under a month. Daniel Camilo, a renowned analyst, provided some details on this. We suspected it a little, but this stratospheric momentum is largely thanks to the Chinese audience, which alone accounts for 70% of the Game Science title’s sales. However, according to the analyst, his studio is already planning to release a first DLC for Black Myth Wukong soon, which should be released around the Chinese New Year. Or at the end of January in the rest of the world. An official announcement on the matter would be expected in December.
However, this first DLC, which adds new chapters to the Predestined story, may be much less successful. Daniel Camilo estimates that only 20% of Black Myth Wukong players would buy it. Aside from the effect of novelty and national pride at the release, the Chinese public is actually not used to such RPGs with Souls-like elements. Few would have finished the base game because they found it too demanding.
It could therefore be that Black Myth Wukong’s first upcoming DLC will have to forego its homeland and stand on its own two feet. This could seriously affect Game Science’s ambitions for a second DLC or even a sequel. Likewise, the Chinese studio is still working on an Xbox Series version, which is unfortunately still conspicuous by its absence. We’ll see you in the coming months to see how the adventure of the predestined will unfold.
