When the makers of Game of Thrones reject an offer worth millions

When producing House of the Dragonthe American broadcaster HBO turned to David Benioff and DB Weiss (the creators of the Game of Thrones series) to make them an offer that many wouldn’t have refused. The network only planned to add his name to the credits for several million dollars, even though he wasn’t actually involved in the making of House of the Dragon. However, the latter preferred to refuse this astronomical sum rather than commit to a lie. In any case, they shared this with journalists Hollywood Reporter in an interview published a few days ago:

HBO was a little lost. I remember her lawyer saying: But it’s just money, we’ll just pay you? (…) But I don’t think there is such a thing as money without compensation. When our name is written on it, when we are completely detached and uninvolved, it feels like a burden (…). Whether (House of the Dragon) was a success, a failure, or something in between, it wasn’t worth it to us.
