The shooting of Joker 2: Folie à deux has started after a few weeks delay. After the resounding success of the first film, director Todd Phillips opted for the same communication strategy. The first images are therefore already beginning to distil. A rather morbid first photo of Joaquin Phoenix playing Arthur Fleck has been revealed.

The film isn’t expected for several years, but the teasing has already begun. If Joker was conceived as a self-sufficient adaptation, Warner is determined to ride the vein a little longer. For this sequel, Todd Phillips will turn the company’s biggest critical and commercial success in a long time on its heels by offering a musical comedy set in Arkham Asylum. Joker 2 is said to be about the encounter between Gotham’s most notorious clown and Harley Quinn, interpreted here by Lady Gaga, and the beginning of their relationship.
Many wondered if the film would retain the dark atmosphere of the first film. The director provides a clue with a very first image of Joker 2. It shows Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker, being shaved by what appears to be a guard from Arkham Asylum. The dim lighting seems to promise equally dark sequences as the first episode. A little makeover before her first appointment with therapist Harley Quinzel? Theories are already starting to fly and fans seem to be at ease with this first look for now. For the record, Joker 2: Folie à deux hits theaters in October 2024.
