New week, new leaks for The Sims 5. The game’s first test build is making headlines again with a stolen gameplay video and some additional details.
After ten years of faithful service and numerous expansions, The Sims 4 isn’t ready to leave the landscape just yet. Maxis continues to spoil players with new DLCs, taking into account recurring requests from the community, as shown by the A Louer package. At the same time, the teams are also shaping the future of the license: Project Rene. EA has communicated about this on multiple occasions, most notably confirming that it will indeed be free-to-play and will include multiplayer components. The next talk shouldn’t take too long, but before the studio can officially tell us more about it, a Sims 5 gameplay video leaked this long weekend.
Even more customization options in The Sims 5
There are always leaks about Project Rene. Last week, the new open world map was revealed using stolen images from a version of the game from last year. A first look that continues to make the community stomp with impatience, hoping for the return of an open world that is more in line with what the Sims 3 offered at the time. It remains to be seen whether it will be possible to personalize it in a way that challenges players’ bodies and souls. What seems certain, however, is that Maxis will push the tools we know even further. The new Sims 5 gameplay video that leaked this weekend offers a better look at the new features announced by the studio.
A quick reminder for those who may have missed it: Project Rene offers even more customization options than any other game in the license. The most creative players can have fun and share their creations via a special tab called “Discovery” in the leaked test build. In addition, the community can put together their own furniture from various customization options. For example, it will be possible to choose the basic shape of a chair, change its legs, the color, the pattern of the cushion and even add one to the back using “accents”. A new feature that currently includes dozens of objects that can be added to the furniture, allowing each player to add their own little touch.
Overview of Project Rene’s open world
For example, the video in question shows us that a simple countertop can gain in detail and realism by adding kitchen utensils, a baguette, cutting boards and much more. The first build of The Sims 5, on the other hand, seems to limit the number of “accents” for each piece of furniture to just 20. What’s even more interesting is that the size and shape of the furniture can be personalized in an instant. For example, the latest leak shows that a simple table can change its shape and length simply by selecting and stretching it. And because Maxis has done its homework, the ordeal of having to replace the chairs every time is over. They automatically move and adapt to the new shape of the table, which also uses markings to indicate how many people can gather around this table.
It’s very simple, but much more intuitive than what The Sims 4 offers today. Unfortunately, the latest leak is more timid when it comes to the build mode. We just see how the lucky kid who got to play The Sims 5 creates a room with a single click without really trying to personalize it. What might catch some people’s eyes, however, is the broader overview of the district, which was heavily inspired by Paris in its heyday. We notice several large empty rooms that suggest the possibility of constructing your own buildings.
The Sims is still cartoonish
However, at first glance, it will not be possible to decorate the open world yourself. Maxis is obviously interested in creating unique neighborhoods with their own identity, like in The Sims 4. A vision that often bears fruit thanks to the modeling of worlds, but offers no room for individualization. Let’s hope that the developers find a good balance between their wishes and those of the players.
For the most curious, perhaps the Sims 5 gameplay video viewed here. At the same time, a dataminer dug through one of the builds provided to beta testers and was apparently able to confirm the leaks regarding the character designs. While future competitors will opt for a more realistic approach, The Sims 5 is likely to express its cartoonish side even more. The first renders found in the game files seem to go in this direction, which won’t be to everyone’s taste.
