After long months of waiting, a new feature that has been closely followed by fans of The Witcher 3 is finally available and that truly changes everything for CD Projekt RED's masterpiece.
It's been a while since we reported on famed modder Halk Hogan's progress on his work on the highly anticipated The Witcher 3 mod called HD Reworked NextGen Edition. As the name suggests, there is said to be a deep and excellent visual overhaul of the “next-gen” version of the game, releasing in 2022 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. A long wait that is finally over and was clearly worth it.
A new, next-gen breath of fresh air for The Witcher 3
Despite its nine years, The Witcher 3 still has beautiful remnants today. This is thanks in particular to the aforementioned “next-gen” update, which was released two years ago and aims to take advantage of the more robust hardware found in newer PCs as well as PS5 and Xbox Series consoles. Halk Hogan had already worked on an HD Reworked mod for the original version of the game to improve the overall graphical quality of the game. Due to the enormous popularity of the previous mod, it was logical to work on a NextGen version. It's available now and radically changes many aspects of The Witcher 3.
The HD Reworked NextGen Edition mod reworks a variety of elements from CD Projekt RED's masterpiece. This applies to textures as well as models, materials and other assets. Everything gives The Witcher 3 a much more realistic and “tangible” aspect, which is now more beautiful than ever. The mod was so anticipated that the license's official X.com account itself promoted it, as you can see below. He also shares some comparisons between the “next-gen” version of the game and the notable changes the mod brings.
This can be downloaded free of charge at Nexus modsand is therefore currently only accessible on PC. Be careful though, it weighs quite a bit at around 12GB and also requires quite a robust configuration to function properly. In any case, this is a good way to shorten the enormous (and probably quite long) wait for The Witcher 4, which recently entered full production.
