Dragon’s Dogma 2 recently received an update that finally adds a feature that has been highly requested by players since its release. Better late than never?
Capcom obviously had some trouble getting Dragon’s Dogma 2 to run well, especially on consoles. As a reminder, when it was released in March last year, it was not possible to select different graphics modes as the game targeted a frame rate of 30 constant FPS. An update in June added the ability to choose between low and high graphics, although not necessarily with greater success. With this new patch recently deployed, the Japanese studio aims to finally offer what PS5 and Xbox Series players have been asking for since launch, but not with the same results depending on the platform.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is finally coming to consoles
It has been proven time and time again that a large majority of console gamers, when given the choice, prefer to use Performance Mode over Graphics Mode. This wasn’t the case with the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, which put off more than one person. Seven months after a successful launch, Capcom’s title finally offers the opportunity to choose between one and the other on PS5 and Xbox Series, and to some extent on PC.
In the graphics section of the Dragon’s Dogma 2 options we now find two options: “ Prioritize graphics ” or ” Prioritize performance “. On the official X.com account of the license we can see a table that describes in detail what each mode offers, as follows:
- PS5 – Prioritize Performance: 2160p/1728p at 50-60 FPS
- PS5 – Prioritize graphics: 2160/2160p at 30-40 FPS
- Xbox Series X – Prioritize performance: 2160p/1728p at 50-60 FPS
- Xbox Series X – Prioritize graphics: 2160/2160p at 30-40 FPS
- Series S – Prioritize Performance: 2160p/1440p at 35-40 FPS
- Series S – Prioritize graphics: 2160/1440p at 30-35 FPS
- Steam: Varies depending on hardware and settings
We therefore find that, unfortunately not surprisingly, the Xbox Series S is significantly less advantageous for the correct execution of Dragon’s Dogma 2, even when performance is the primary focus. Some users who responded to the following X.com post are wondering why Capcom didn’t go for 1080p resolution in this case, but instead tried to aim for a constant 60 FPS. Regardless, it’s a welcome addition to the game on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but isn’t it too little, too late? Unless there is also a DLC on the way to renew interest in Dragon’s Dogma 2? The future will show us.
