The guts of PC games hide many secrets. And when Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered comes under scrutiny, it gives us potential clues about its sequel.
Since its announcement, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been very discreet. That doesn’t stop fans from fantasizing about what they’d like to see in the game, and one feature stands out: a co-op mode. Expected next year’s PS5 exclusivity could well be its wildest dream come true.
A highly anticipated feature in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2?
The release of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on PC has some interesting information. PC game requires PlayStation exclusive files already dissected from the dataminer. And one of them made a discovery that gets people talking to each other on the internet. The game’s guts actually mention a co-op mode and competitive multiplayer, which has been visibly abandoned. There are actually lines of code related to the winner, player 1 and player 2. Another row shows two teams, one blue, one red and another activating the co-op.
So everything leads us to suspect that while Insomniac Games looked into a multiplayer mode, it would not have seen the light of day in the end. However, the idea could very well be exploited in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Immediately after the game’s announcement, several fans had shared their desire to walk the streets of New York and face Venom with their friends, one in the skin of Peter, the other in Miles’ skin. This sweet dream could come true if the developers managed to make their first draft come true since then. The studio is definitely recruiting for a multiplayer project. Maybe it’s related? Currently, the official announcement states that it will be a single player game. We are never safe from a good surprise, but the conditional remains de rigueur for the moment.
