A lot is moving within the Xbox company lately, with a new major change in this direction, for the better?
Microsoft’s gaming industry is currently undergoing significant changes, with a recent change in direction, particularly on the part of Halo. However, the news that interests us here takes on a completely different dimension, because this time it affects all the Xbox game studios that oversee the whole thing.
A relatively rare change within Xbox Game Studios
After just a year in the job, Alan Hartman, previously director of Turn 10 (Forza), announced his resignation as director of Xbox Game Studios. This farewell will take effect at the end of November. Microsoft’s gaming department has already found a replacement for him in Craig Duncan. The man is following a similar path, having led the talented Rare studio for 14 years.
More precisely, the studio, purchased by Xbox in 2002, produced under his leadership the infamous Kinect games, but also the much more famous Sea of Thieves. He also led Rare during much of the development of Everwild, which could soon finally return official signs of life. Craig Duncan previously worked in well-known groups such as Sumo Digital, Midway and Codemasters.
In his new role as Director of Xbox Game Studios, he will be responsible for leading all studios that are part of Microsoft’s gaming branch. Namely teams like Halo Studios, The Coalition (Gears of War), Turn 10, Playground Games (Fable 4), Obsidian (Avowed), Ninja Theory (Hellblade 2), The Initiative (Perfect Dark), Double Fine (Psychonauts 2), inXile (Wasteland 3), Undead Labs (State of Decay 3), Rare and many others. Rare is led by Joe Neate and Jim Hoth, two veterans of the studio. Hopefully this change of direction within Xbox Game Studios will be beneficial.
