news culture A new Star Wars saga based on a franchise we all love is coming to Disney
When Disney talks about a new franchise that might resemble the Star Wars formula, you don’t necessarily expect it to be this one.
Among the great favorites of the Disney classics, the series “The Lion King” is very often mentioned. Disney is aware of this and obviously intends to exploit all the lore of the universe. Believe it or not, according to Sean Bailey, The president of Walt Disney Pictures, The Lion King could “become a great epic saga, like the Star Wars franchise
The latest adaptation, Disney’s 2019 live-action remake, grossed over $1.7 billion at the global box office, despite aggregator Rotten Tomatoes averaging 52%, and the press agreed with the following consensus: ” While the lion can be proud of his visual accomplishments.” King is a mundane retelling that lacks the energy and heart that made the original so popular – although that might be enough for some fans.” Directed by Jon Favreau and direct from a script by Jeff Nathanson, the film closely follows the plot of the original 1994 film and invites several stars to the cast including Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, John Oliver and Beyoncé to name a few.
Mufasa opens the ball
Planned for summer 2024, Mufasa: The Lion King will be a prequel (also photorealistic) directed by Barry Jenkins, the Oscar-winning man behind Moonlight. It tells, as its name suggests, the life of Mufasa when he was a young lion and traces the origins of his mythical feud with Scar. “Mufasa: The Lion King will appear in the form of flashbacks. Rafiki, Timon and Pumbaa will tell a young lion cub the story and rise of one of the greatest kings the land of lions has ever born,” we can read in the synopsis shared by Allociné, who also spoke to the director about this new proposal had: “It’s different than The Lion King, but it will have the same energy. Mufasa tells how Simba’s father became king. His story is told from his childhood to the birth of his son. In the original film, Mufasa represents greatness. We admire his kingship, his leadership. We believe he has all of that because he was born good… But in this prequel, we’ll explore how his friends and family made him who he is.
