Dragon Quest 3 HD-2H was put in the spotlight during the Nintendo Direct in June 2024, an announcement that also came with a nice surprise.
Dragon Quest is one of Square Enix’s strongest licenses, along with Final Fantasy, but also one of the most popular in the world of JRPGs. All eyes are naturally on the twelfth work, which is slowly but surely progressing behind the scenes. To make players wait to discover this episode, which would turn into an action RPG, the publisher wanted to rediscover the origins of the license in a new light.
Dragon Quest trilogy confirmed
Square Enix had announced the color: there would soon be an announcement around Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D. You don’t have to be an insider or a fortune teller to make the connection to the June 2024 Nintendo Direct. Rumor has it that there will be a compilation of the Erdrick Trilogy, a cute little name given to the heroes of the three founding episodes of the license. This will only be half the case. All three founding episodes are entitled to a 2D HD remake like “Live a Live” and “Star Ocean”, but their release will be separate. So, chronologically speaking, it starts with the beginning of this story: Dragon Quest 3 HD. The nostalgic morsel is scheduled for November 14 on Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as Steam. The sequel will be released sometime in 2025, with no further details.
The first images are clearly enough to get us started. Square Enix has clearly mastered this very special style and seems to be working wonders with Dragon Quest 3. We’ll let you judge for yourself:
