Will Sony be hosting a PlayStation 5 release event in the next few days? That’s what a rumor wants, but in the current context a postponement would have been requested.
There are a few rumors about Sony events every month, often from very dubious sources. But this noise in the corridor is a bit more serious because it comes from our colleagues GameReactor. For them, a State of Play or PlayStation Showcase live stream would be scheduled for the month of March.
Big announcements coming soon?
After the release of Gran Turismo 7 and Horizon Forbidden West, Sony has to feed PS5 players with new features or upcoming software updates. According to Gamereactor an event – State of Play or PlayStation Showcase – could happen this week and knowing that appointments of this type are usually broadcast on Wednesdays or Thursdays leaves little time for an announcement.
So did our colleagues have wrong information? Not necessarily. Their whistleblowers claim that the live stream may be postponed due to the war in Ukraine. Some developers, including PlayStation Studios, who are scheduled to attend, would have argued for a postponement. And this in order not to do it “distract attention”
In 2020, Sony also postponed the presentation of its PlayStation 5 after the death of George Floyd. The tragedy and the anti-racism demonstrations that followed had encouraged the manufacturer to reconsider its plans.
State of affairs in March: what to expect?
However, our colleagues do not go into the details of this presentation. Still, rumors are surging about a new trailer for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy. A trailer that could formalize the September 2022 release. And then? Tom Henderson speculates on the existence of The Last of Us projects (PS5 remake of the first and multiplayer of TLOU2).
We also await the unveiling of the new PlayStation Plus, the Spartacus project that would merge PS Plus and PS Now through different subscriptions. And since we’re in complete vagueness, why not something new on PSVR2?
