Mario could soon be the subject of a surprise crossover if we are to believe a recent leak that clearly refers to Nintendo’s flagship franchise.

While Mario has had one after another very good exclusives on the Switch with Jamboree and L’Épopée Fraternelle, it could be that Nintendo’s famous mustachioed plumber takes his usual route of exporting to other platforms. At least that’s what we can tell from the data, which suggests a surprising but large-scale crossover.

Mario could still end up in another surprising universe

After his recent and very good film adaptation, Mario could climb into the tube again and take him into a completely different, unusual universe. In this case, there would be a potential collaboration between Nintendo and Epic Games. The US company has apparently been trying to get closer to Big N for a long time, but so far without success. After Dragon Ball, LEGO, Marvel, Naruto and even Star Wars, Nintendo’s mascot could finally appear in Epic’s free-to-play golden egg: Fortnite.

This is certainly suggested by an asset (see below) discovered by iFireMonkey, a dataminer known for all things Fortnite. After the game’s last update, it would have unearthed assets in its files for a vehicle cosmetic. This is a yellow block that has a white question mark on several pages. A particularly representative element of the Mario mythology.

So this could mean that Epic has finally convinced Nintendo to partner up and represent its mascot in Fortnite. However, nothing is set in stone yet. We will actually have to wait for official confirmation to find out if Mario will actually offer his services in the famous battle royale. Big N usually doesn’t like sharing his most prized toys. Especially when it comes to portraying its iconic mascot in a game that involves violence and the use of firearms. On the other hand, since the datamined asset that clearly refers to Mario is interested in a vehicle cosmetic, the result of this collaboration could very well be in Rocket Racing, the arcade racing game associated with Fortnite.
