A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is expected on October 17th and is a horror game with a mechanic that is unfortunately too rare and yet changes everything.
Originally a film series launched in 2018, A Quiet Place will soon be eligible for a game on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, courtesy of Saber Interactive and Stormmind. And one of its flagship mechanics could well represent a small revolution in the prolific horror game genre. Enough to make gamers and big names in the industry like Silent Hill 2 Remake scream (but not too much)?
A quiet place and its mechanics that change everything for horror games
Since it was a first relatively low-budget film that was a huge success, it didn’t take much to motivate Saber Interactive (Space Marine 2) and Stormmind Games to turn the thing into a game. So A Quiet Place: The Road was expected October 17th on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series. In addition to a true-to-original story and first-person gameplay that is convincing on paper, it is above all an optional mechanic (which can be activated as desired) that we rarely see in horror games that is causing a lot of conversation (but not too loudly!) about the upcoming title .
This mechanic from A Quiet Place has the sober name “Mic Noise Detection” and is simply brilliant. The slightest sound detected by your controller’s or headset’s microphone will be transmitted in-game, causing the horrors you’re trying to avoid at the risk of your life. And it covers not just your voice, like Phasmophobia, but EVERY detected sound. Whether it’s the push of a button, the noisy neighbor, or the people on the street, the slightest noise can be your downfall in A Quiet Place.
An absolutely brilliant mechanic that we’d love to see more of in horror games, as it fits the genre perfectly and provides an unsettling sense of immersion. In any case, it will be very present in A Quiet Place and could give it the key to compete with the giants in the field. Judgment of October 17th.
