According to a report, Sony remade “The Last of Us” in PS5’s work.
The Bloomberg report pointed out that the Visual Arts Services Group is studying the remake of “The Last of Us”, which began around 2018. According to Bloomberg News, the project was eventually handed over to Naughty Dog.
According to the report, Michael Mubol’s team almost restructured Uncharted, but when Sony realized that the production cost was too high, especially the increase in design work, the idea was cancelled. Instead, the team began to remake “The Last of Us”.
However, because “Last of Us 2” is under development, Sony did not provide enough resources to support the team.
When the ending of the second part of “Our Last Memories” was delayed, the visual arts service team worked with Naughty Dog to produce a sequel. Then, after the game ended, the PS5 remake of “The Last of Us” was handed over to Naughty Dog.
By the end of 2020, many senior staff of the Visual Arts Services Group had left the company, including Mumbauer and Game Director David Hall. The project is still under development at Naughty Dog, and the visual arts support team provided support to the team.
The report also mentioned that Days Gone studio Sony Bend has set a sequel to the game, but Sony doesn’t like the idea. Instead, the team began to develop a new “Uncharted Sea”, which was eventually handed over to Naughty Dog. The report pointed out that Sony Bender is now developing its own new game.
