It was THE news of the week in the gaming industry: Microsoft surprisingly arranged a large billion-dollar deal and secured the services and brands of Activision Blizzard – a real heavyweight in the industry. Is that why PlayStation fans might be left empty-handed when it comes to numerous titles? First of all, Sony does not expect that!
The Bethesda deal already has negative effects for PlayStation fans, after all, for example, the sci-fi hopeful Starfield, which is planned for the end of the year, will no longer appear for the PlayStation. A similar fate is also likely to be in store for The Elder Scrolls VI. Will Activision Blizzard’s Big Brands Continue After Microsoft’s Acquisition?
In this case, of course, the focus is above all on the large Call of Duty shooter series, which will continue to raise new speculations in the future as to whether it will still be represented on the PS5 or not. In any case, Sony is by no means assuming at the moment that Micros oft and Activision Blizzard will now give the PlayStation a wide berth because of the deal.
“We expect that Microsoft will stick to the contractual agreements and continue to ensure that Activision games become multiplatform,” a Sony spokesman told the renowned Wall Street Journal. In short: The near future seems secured due to closed deals, which also coincides with previous statements by Xbox boss Phil Spencer. The CEO of Microsoft Gaming had emphasized that Activision Blizzard games are played on numerous different platforms and that Microsoft plans to “continue to support these communities in the future”.
The question that no one has answered should therefore be how things will continue after the contracts mentioned in the Sony statement. These are likely to be limited in time and then it will probably be seen whether Microsoft also wants to make a profit from the billion dollar deal through exclusive titles.
A BloombergThe report, citing its own sources, suggested Microsoft plans to keep “some Activision games” on PlayStation consoles, but said “some content” will be exclusive to Xbox. In this respect, the specific design in the future will tip the scales.
