Wisps are small, blue, and mostly unimportant in Tears of the Kingdom.

Wisps are small, blue, and mostly unimportant in Tears of the Kingdom.

There’s just an incredible amount to do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom: beat up bokoblins, raid shrines, build spaceships, ride dragons and shoot them with arrows while you’re at it, pet dogs in a detour and collect will-o’-the-wisps – wait, crazy ?

Hand on heart: Would you? will-o’-the-wisps If you had to dig into your memories first, you probably wouldn’t be the only ones. There are plenty of these little blue flames in the underground of Hyrule, but with a few exceptions they are not really important.

Yet one player only collected will-o’-the-wisps for six months. Why? Good that you asked!

When burning curiosity is worth every effort

Like the website Automaton-Media reports, a player apparently asked himself the urgent question one day: What is the maximum number of will-o’-the-wisps that can fit in Link’s pockets?

That was the beginning of a very monotonous grind in which the fan farmed himself stupid and stupid. The undertaking lasted from June to December 2023 – or in bare numbers: It took him 1,855 hours of play to get an answer to his urgent question.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to wait that long for the solution, here it is: 999,999 will-o’-the-wisps can collect link, then it’s over.

The practical side effect: If you have now set yourself the goal of collecting 999,999 will-o’-the-wisps, the brave fan even has professional tips including ready-made routes for you on X (formerly Twitter) made available.

What to do with all the will-o’-the-wisps?

Finally, we’ll shed some light on what you can actually do with all the lost souls in Tears of the Kingdom. It’s not much, but you can at least exchange some items for it.

Wo? On the surface in the lookout post by the mage statue next to the NPC Josha after she warps to Purah’s house.

Was? You can get the following items from the Mage Statue for Wisps:

  • Window cleats: 10 Irrlichter
  • Will-o’-the-wisp: 16 will-o’-the-wisps
  • Qualmerling: 16 will-o’-the-wisps
  • Thunderflower: 16 will-o’-the-wisps
  • Dark Garb: 150 Wisps
  • Dark Pants: 200 Wisps
  • Garment of Darkness: 150 Wisps

As you can see: a few hundred will-o’-the-wisps are absolutely enough for a normal game run. So you can devote yourself to something more important in the next six months – other games, for example. Which? How about these:

Have you ever found yourself in Tears of the Kingdom pursuing what is essentially a fairly unimportant question? Are you also one of the passionate Irrlicht collectors? How many of the little blue ghosts have you probably collected so far and what did you exchange them for? Feel free to write it to us in the comments!
