Gaming News After 194 hours in this MMO, this player has finally achieved his goal and it will surprise you!
Massively multiplayer online video games offer a wealth of quests, objectives, and side activities. Enough to multiply the hours invested, especially if the content you want to create is far from adventure. But often the game is worth the effort.
MMORPGs, time-consuming video games
In the world of video games, there are few titles that last more than a hundred hours. They exist, but their number is small. Personally, I have rarely gone beyond this symbolic level. Even my journey with the extraordinary Final Fantays VII Rebirth only lasted 90 hours. However, one genre of video games is much more time-consuming than the others: that of online video games and especially massively multiplayer games
Since 2013 and its redesign, Final Fantasy 14 has been one of those games that easily take up time. The game is full of content: there are several stories, several expansions; a jumble of activities. Sometimes you need some play time to enjoy a certain area or side quest. Something Robert Harper recognized. The actor decided to invest 194 hours of his time in Final Fantasy 14 to pay tribute to Stephen Critchlow, a colleague who died a year earlier. He explains to GamesRadar what motivated him to take this trip:
As the anniversary of Stephen’s death approached, I started thinking about him, our time together in the ’90s, and how much Stephen’s community loved him in Final Fantasy 14. I remembered the in-game vigils that took place last September when players learned of his death. And I said to myself, “I want to experience what they experienced. I want to explore the story, find it and fight (…)”
All just to hear from his old friend.
Final Fantasy XIV: Almost 200 hours on the clock
It is therefore the numerous honors from the Final Fantasy XIV community that motivate Robert Harper to join. He explains that he quickly became hooked on the game, especially after discovering the bard class. After 100 hours, he realizes that in order to hear his deceased friend, he must access the Heavensward expansion and therefore complete A Realm Reborn’s entire narrative campaign. In fact, Stephen Critchlow lends his voice to Count Edmont de Fortemps. And after 194 hours of play…
The greatest reward after 194 hours at Ishgard? I’m listening to my old friend Stephen Critchlow.
A touching story, reinforced by the last sentence in the sequence above: “They came with memories of loss and dreams of redemption, with hope in their hearts.“The opportunity to remember that if Final Fantasy XIV shines today, it is thanks in part to its community.” She has already been elected”best community for an online game” during the Game Awards and paid tribute to artists who have already passed away. We think in particular of their vigil to mark the death of Kentaro Miura, the author of Berserk, in 2022.
