Ubisoft ultimately didn’t give up on a very controversial new game and even recently launched it. However, the publisher carefully avoided the use of advertising materials.
While we learned this morning that Ubisoft had made a controversial decision for Assassin’s Creed, the publisher made another decision that was strange to say the least. In 2021, the video game giant made a number of announcements around NFTs, blockchain and all those big words for many people. The Quartz portal was then born and the criticism was not long in coming, be it from employees but also from players. Despite the hostility, Ubisoft released a game that was heavily criticized when it was announced and that no one wanted.
Ubisoft is releasing a game that was criticized before its release
NFTs and Ubisoft are a love story that doesn’t really work out, but continues nonetheless. While everyone forgot about it, Ubisoft quietly released Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles. A new game built entirely around NFTs and blockchain. Additionally, you can avoid the download if you do not have a compatible blockchain wallet. This is one of the requirements to play, as it requires a minimum age and requires connection via Ubisoft Connect.
« Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles is a tactical PvP role-playing game developed by Ubisoft that takes place in the dark fantasy world of Grimoria. Players form teams of collectible digital champions with unique abilities and engage in strategic, turn-based battles to climb the ranks ». At launch, Ubisoft is offering figures that can also be purchased using in-game currency or cryptocurrencies.
When Ubisoft stipulates that we can visibly benefit simply by using gold, the main currency, we ask. Especially since there is already a market for Champions figures at completely crazy prices. Prices start at $7 but can go up to $63,372. $63,000 for non-physical “collectibles” is pretty crazy. Given the negative reviews flooding the web about these Web3 projects, Ubisoft’s game may not last long. Will you still try this title or would you rather avoid it?
