Borderlands 4 was announced at Opening Night Live, courtesy of developer Gearbox Software and publisher 2K. The game was announced via a short trailer showing a planet passing through a field of cosmic ice before a character picks up a mask and flips it over, revealing it to be the iconic Borderlands face/gas mask seen on the game’s cover so far.

That’s right, no silver-tongued robots, no dancing, no guns, no real information at all. All we know is that it will be out in 2025. At least we won’t have to wait that long to learn more about everyone’s favorite lisp-filled gaming series. It will only be available on the new generation of consoles and PC.
The last we heard about Borderlands 4 was late last year, when a developer posted a clunky update on LinkedIn.
Thanks to former Gearbox developer Randel Reiss, who worked on a contract basis at Gearbox-owned Lost Boys Interactive, we know that the studio is working on Borderlands 4 and Tiny Tina’s Wonderland 2.
This could be good news for fans, especially after the film underperformed in theaters this summer. Our most recent release was 2019’s Borderlands 3, so it hasn’t been that long since. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland, a fantasy-themed spinoff of the stylish shooter, was released last year to generally positive reviews upon its release.
Hopefully it will make people forget the taste of the Borderlands movie. We gave it 1 star, which we still think is probably generous. It was also a movie that flopped at the box office.
We saw a huge spike in player counts for Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands 3 following the release of the film earlier this month, as those poor players desperately looked for reasons to keep paying attention to the IP. The new game will likely increase that attention as well.
