After the Demon Soul, the Elden Ring team is under pressure

Edge Magazine (via VGC) revealed in an interview Eldon Ring Director and long-term software designer Hidetaka Miyazaki said that due to the graphic fidelity of Bluepoint’s “Devil’s Soul” remake for PS5, the graphics team felt extra pressure to make something that looks amazing.

Miyazaki said that it all boils down to From Software’s priorities:

“Graphic fidelity is not our top priority. Our requirements for graphics depend on the system and requirements of the game itself. Compared with other development elements, it has a lower priority.”

Graphics can serve any system proposed by the developer, which makes sense. Demon’s Souls and its descendants use gameplay to create a specific atmosphere where the graphics must fit. Nonetheless, graphics are an important part of making their atmosphere second to none in this industry. This is why Bluepoint’s remake of Demon’s Souls is praised for its visual effects, but also condemned for its often inconsistent style.

Elsewhere in the interview, Miyazaki explained that the reason why he did not play the remake is simple, because he doesn’t like going back to the games he made before:

“It brings a lot of old emotions, a lot of old memories. It’s a bit overwhelming and I don’t feel like playing anymore. So I haven’t played the remake of the demon yet, but I’m very happy to see it has a brand new Look, these brand new contemporary graphics.”

However, Miyazaki’s team seems to have no worries about Elden Ring because it looks great and wants to adopt the formula they promoted in new places. Since ray tracing support will be obtained in a future patch, it also looks beautiful.
