After several rumors, the Steam Deck 2 is being talked about, and this time it's Valve who speaks out. What exactly do we know about this topic?

In the last few days, a rumor has sparked the tech community: a Steam Deck 2 equipped with the new processor AMD Ryzen Z2 would be in preparation. It all started with shared slides from VideoCardz.comsuggesting that Valve would adopt this processor for a new version of its portable console. But Valve quickly put an end to these speculations.

Valve clarifies the situation regarding Steam Deck 2

On the social network BlueskyPierre-Loup Griffais, an employee at Valve, denied this information on the Steam Deck. In his message he explains:
“There is no Steam Deck Z2 and there will not be. The slide probably meant that this processor series was intended for similar products, without anything concrete being announced.”

This clarification removes any ambiguity. Other devices were also mentioned in the slides, such as: Asus ROG Ally and the Lenovo Legion Goalready compatible with the Ryzen Z1 series. An understandable confusion, but one that Valve is not concerned with at the moment.

During the CES 2025AMD has not confirmed whether the Ryzen Z2 will be integrated into a future deck or other devices. There is currently no specific manufacturer known for this processor. However, brands like Lenovo, Asus or MSI could be in the running. This lack of confirmation perpetuates the mystery, but Valve has made it clear that its next device will not be affected.

Not yet, but it will come

Even if the Ryzen Z2 is not part of the current plans, Valve has already mentioned the development of one Steam Deck 2. This is part of the natural cycle of gaming consoles: offering developments to stay competitive. However, no data or specifications have been announced yet. You therefore need to be patient.

The original Steam Deck was a huge success thanks to its power and flexibility. Especially given the increasing competitionAsus ROG AllyPlayers are waiting for an update. However, Valve seems to be taking its time to deliver a truly innovative device without giving in to pressure.*
