Kadabra, the spoon-bending psychic Pokémon, may finally be returning to the trading card game after an absence of more than two decades.
The history of Pokemon TCG and Kadabra is a bit strange and sad. To keep up with you, back in 2000, magician Uri Geller took legal action against Nintendo because Kadabra was believed to resemble him due to Pokemon’s psychic abilities and imagery of bending spoons. As a result, Kadabra wasn’t available in TCG, but in 2020 Geller apologized for the situation and allowed Nintendo to start printing Kadabra cards again. According to Pokemon TCG fan site PokeBeach, we should see Kadabra in the card game again later this year.
Earlier this month, PokeBeach reported that a new Japanese Pokemon TCG set called Pokemon Card 151 will be released this June, apparently referring to the original 151 Pokemon. When PokeBeach asked him about anything he might know about Kadabra, he simply linked his own Pokemon Card 151 report to them, strongly implying that we’ll see there… whatever Kadabra is anyway.
Geller also offered a quote to PokeBeach, explaining that fans convinced him to change his mind about lifting the ban, saying, “I’m glad Pokemon fans are excited to see Kadabra back in the card game. Look, I want to thank Pokemon The last time I contacted my fans [few] year. Including people from PokeBeach who keep reaching out to me. So basically, you and my granddaughter made me change my mind. Now we can all see Kadabra reunited with the original Pokemon in this summer’s card game. ”
That last line lines up with PokeBeach’s report on the June release of Pokemon Card 151, so hopefully if confirmed, Pokemon will get some nice art to mark its return.
