Game News After years of waiting, this feature is finally available on Steam and will make players really happy
Steam welcomes a new feature that could make gamers (very) happy: Game Recording. As the name suggests, it will make it easier for you to record video clips!
Even though Steam has been part of PC gamers’ everyday lives for over 20 years, Valve’s platform is constantly evolving and welcoming a whole series of updates. For several days now, it has been an important addition that has entered beta: Steam Game Recording. As the name suggests, this tool allows you to capture and record your exploits on almost all games in the store (only old titles that don’t support Steam Overlay can be a problem).
The principle is simple, you can save your game either manually or in the background. In the latter case, Valve notes that it is possible to review what just happened – “a very useful feature to see how your character died, to remember a previous dialogue with an NPC,” specifies the company… Finally – in both cases -, The Steam Overlay now benefits from a tab dedicated to game recording, showing both your recording itself and its timelineThis makes it easy to edit and share your recording, either in Steam chat or as a raw file.
A feature worth trying
In short, a simple tool that is equipped with a really well thought-out detail: game benchmarks. Specifically: If a studio integrates game recording natively into its Steam version, The player can then see various markers directly on the timeline of his automatic recording, indicating the highlights of his game. For example, in Elden Ring, when you fall in battle, a skull automatically slides onto the timeline. Of course, you can also add your own markers with a keyboard shortcut without leaving the game… Handy for sorting your little shots.
Currently, only a few games offer these automatic markers (including Dota 2 and Counter-Strike 2). Yes, Steam Game Recording is still in beta and will be improved over the weeks. In any case, If you want to try it out now, simply join the client beta by clicking the Steam button in the top left of the store, then clicking Settings and Interface.. If you’re wondering, yes, it’s also available on Steam Deck.
