deep silver, and Dead Island 2 Developer Dambuster had plenty of reason to celebrate this week. After generally being well-received, audiences responded in kind.
Dead Island 2 has sold more than one million copies since its release on Friday, the two companies announced, reaching that milestone just three days later.
It’s an impressive end to the story of a game released nearly a decade ago that went through a difficult development process and was led by three different studios until Dambuster finally launched it.
Of course, it helps that Dead Island 2 is available on current and previous generation consoles, as well as PC. Reports suggest that, if ambitions for new hardware are lacking, it’s fairly well-done across all consoles, with consistent framerates and reasonable targets.
While we typically look at Steam stats for any new PC game to get an idea of its audience size, Dead Island 2 is an Epic Games Store exclusive, so we don’t know how it’s doing in the game compared to consoles.
Still, sales momentum and word of mouth generally bodes well for its eventual Steam release, as we’ve seen with many other EGS exclusives in the past.
The news comes after it was discovered that the game’s pre-order bonus … won’t actually be released until the summer. In addition to the usual missing content at launch, Dead Island 2 will also receive some expansion content–the content and scope of which has yet to be outlined.
