At the weekend the time had come: The big fan preview event for Age of Empires IV took place and had a lot of new impressions, information and first gameplay ready. We give you an overview here!
Relic Entertainment and Microsoft used the weekend to finally announce details and impressions of Age of Empires IV. The most important message right at the beginning: The new strategy epic is to be published this year. Although there is no specific release date, the release period for PC has been set for autumn 2021. The game will also be included in the Xbox Game Pass for PC from the start, but it can also be obtained via Steam. There should be a closed beta test phase in advance.
During the presentation, a number of video clips and trailers were shown, each of which took up different parts of the new strategy game. With the campaign of the Normans, one of the four historical campaigns was shown in the new game, which will be available at the launch:
The Normans campaign follows the battle between Harold Godwinson, King of the Anglo-Saxons, and William the Conqueror, promised Harold’s crown. Numerous massive battles of the multi-year conflict, including the famous Battle of Hastings in 1066, are on board.
In two further clips, two of the eight playable factions available at the launch were presented: the completely newly introduced Sultanate of Delhi, which takes on the English and primarily relies on elephant units, and the Chinese. The latter were presented in a battle with the Mongols in the feudal age:
As far as the factions are concerned, the primary goal of developer Relic is that they differ as much as possible and allow different strategic approaches to the game. The gameplay mechanics will be much more complex in the future and have more nuances to offer. For example, the nomadic lifestyle of the Mongols should be reflected in the game in such a way that they can relocate entire cities.
Detached from these shorter and topic-specific clips, the pleading of the strategy fans was also heard and Relic finally shows a solid and long gameplay trailer, which we also have ready for you:
The new features for Age of Empires IV also include the new presentation of the campaigns in the style of modern documentaries, asymmetrical civilizations for the multiplayer mode, which did not previously exist in this form within the franchise, a stealth mechanic in forests, through which you can hide units between trees, and also sea battles.
