After a long development period, Age of Empires IV was finally released for the PC last fall. The strategy game could also serve on Xbox consoles in the future.
New code has now appeared as part of the Xbox Insider Program – and for strategy fans, one line is of particular importance. This could lead to the conclusion that Age of Empires IV for the Xbox is already in a test phase internally.
In January, “Cardinal” will be available for test purposes via the Xbox Insider Hub. What does this have to do with Age of Empires IV? Quite simply: “Cardinal” was a code name for the current strategy game in the past. The title is garnished w ith the letters “XIP”, which, according to a Twitter user, is probably “Xbox Insider Preview”.
Microsoft is using these letters for the first time in connection with Cardinal. An Xbox port could now turn into the first test phases. To date, there is no official confirmation of such an implementation; accordingly, you should classify the report as what it currently is – a rumor.
In view of the success of the strategy game on the PC, porting the Xbox to Microsoft should certainly appear worthwhile; Such a scenario is therefore not entirely unlikely. The Flight Simulator had already been published first for PC before a variant for Xbox Series X followed. However, flight simulations are inherently better suited for control on consoles.
