The new strategy epic Age of Empires IV has finally been available since October 28th – and it obviously got off to a tailor-made start.
Fans of the Age of Empires strategy series had to wait many years for a sequel before Age of Empires IV was finally released last week on October 28th. The opening weekend should now have gone completely to the taste of developer Relic.
On Steam, the new offspring of the franchise got off to a good start and found itself directly in the list of top sellers. The number of players also bodes well, peaking at over 70,000 gamers at the same time.
In order to better place the number in the context of the franchise: The number of players has doubled compared to the start of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. And: For the moment, these seem to be stable, because today’s peak was just under 74,000 gamers at the same time. Age of Empires IV is one of the top 20 titles currently most frequently played on Steam.
The sales figures are currently ahead of current competitors such as Back 4 Blood or the popular MMORPG New World. And that seems to have provided evidence for the moment: there is still a place among gamers for real-time strategy games, even if this has already been discussed with the genre.
