Strategy fans eagerly await the release of the sequel Age of Empires IV, but this has been rather quiet recently. At the turn of the year there is finally an update from the makers.
Since the announcement of Age of Empires IV, the new part of the historical series has been considered one of the greatest hopes in the strategy genre. However, so far fans have had to be strong as far as possible, because tangible new information and updates on the development status were rarely available. Obviously, there is no cause for concern.
Just in time for the turn of the year, the makers have now spoken up again. Like many others, they took a look back at 2020, especially when it came to the various titles in the series. At the same time, Age of Empires IV finally came up again, which was officially announced in August 2017.
The good news from the developers: “We’re making great strides in Age of Empires IV. I don’t mean to make you jealous, but we’re literally playing the game every single day in both Washington and Vancouver.”
So it seems that the basic game systems are now functional and Age of Empires IV is already in a very playable version. The game still has no release date, but considering the current state of development, there could actually be one in 2021.
The makers continue: “The RTS development is fun: It takes a long time to set up different systems (AI, economy, simulation, rendering, etc.), and then it takes another whole corner to merge them. But when When these come together, you suddenly have a game – a game that still requires debugging, balancing, and fine tuning. But it’s the core of the game that you will ultimately deliver. And the best part about it is, it really feels like an Age of Empires. “
Despite the circumstances surrounding COVID-19 and the partial further development from home, the development plan is intact and still on track. Age of Empires IV fans should finally see some light at the end of the tunnel.
