Google Pixel smartphones are currently struggling with aliens. A video clip of Ridley Scott’s first Alien film crashes cell phones. This is reminiscent of the “cursed” wallpaper.
- Google smart phones are currently afflicted with a supernatural problem.
- Pixel phones crash when playing a video clip.
- This brings back memories of the “cursed” wallpaper.
Google’s Pixel phones have faced an unlikely adversary. Not Samsung or iPhone, no, the Xenomorphs from Ridley Scott’s “Alien” from 1979 are currently caus ing surprising restarts for many Pixel 6, Pixel 6a and Pixel 7. But there is nothing supernatural about this process.
The restart is triggered by a video clip on YouTube that comes from the film in question. This is a section in 4K and the high-contrast High Dynamic Range (HDR). On Reddit people are puzzled as to what could have caused the restarts.
Memory of the “cursed” wallpaper
A plausible explanation could be derived from the experience with the “cursed” wallpaper: Due to a rounding error in the gray value of a photo, a number of smartphones crashed irretrievably in 2020. The image software simply could not process this value and only a reset to factory settings – and the consequent deletion of the image – helped.
There is likely a similar error in one or more frames in the video clip. Some recent posts raise hopes that Google may have already solved the bug using a background process. However, if you don’t want to take any risks, you shouldn’t open YouTube links on your Pixel in the near future.
