In September 2022 Apple released its new iPhone 14 and even before that rumors about the 15th generation were circulating on the internet. In the meantime, more and more preliminary information seems to be condensing: an iPhone Ultra, a titanium case and of course a USB-C connection are just the beginning.
We have compiled the most important rumors about the iPhone 15 for you. So you always stay in the picture about what the rumor mill expects from the new Apple smartphones.
The Pro Max is replaced by an Ultra
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg assumes that Apple will make an iPhone Ultra out of the iPhone Pro Max. This would create a consistent naming scheme with the Apple Watches. After all, the flagship model of Apple’s smartwatches is also called the Apple Watch Ultra.
A renaming of the high-end version of the iPhone 15 in iPhone 15 Ultra would only be logical and would provide more clarity for buyers.
The problem child at Apple is not the Pro Max, but the newly introduced iPhone Plus. Although the iPhone 14 Plus isn’t a big seller, the new Plus series will probably stay in the lineup anyway. You can read more about it here:

A rounded titanium case
Twitter-Leaker ShrimpAppleProwho was right about the iPhone 14 leaks, assumes that the iPhone 15 will be a Titanium case will have, in which the back edges are rounded.
If you have trouble imagining this, you can simply take a look at the iPhone 5C. This one had a flat front but rounded edges on the back. According to the leaker, the back of the iPhone 15 should be made of glass to enable wireless charging.
In fact, rumors of an iPhone made of titanium have been circulating for a long time. The switch to the new material was also predicted for the iPhone 14, but then did not happen. ShrimpApplePro himself says his information is very fresh and should be treated with caution.

Rumor: New Apple phone with a case made of titanium?
iPhone 15 with USB Type-C connector
Apple is said to be considering ditching the iPhone 15’s Lightning connector for one USB-C port exchange. This would correspond to new European regulations. They require Apple to offer iPhones with USB-C ports in Europe. India also recently enacted a similar regulation.
Apple would either have to switch to a new design worldwide or develop special iPhones for sale in Europe and India. Credible sources including Mark Gurman of Bloomberg and Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, have reported that Apple is more likely to choose the former. Of course, Apple’s plans can still change.
One option Apple might also consider: a iPhone completely without connections. It remains to be seen whether this could already be the case with the iPhone 15.
Capacitive keys instead of mechanical keys
Sea Ming-Chi Kuo the iPhone 15 Pro models will use capacitive buttons that are similar to the home button on the iPhone 7. Currently, mechanical keys are used that can be physically pressed.
The capacitive buttons would use haptic feedback to simulate a button press. Should Apple decide to do so, future iPhones could be even better protected against dust and moisture. However, such buttons would also fundamentally change the design of mobile phone cases, since you cannot simply cover them.

Apple is set to significantly revise the buttons on the new iPhone
Dynamic Island for all iPhone 15 models
Ross Young, the CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, anticipates that all iPhone 15 models will feature the Dynamic Island. The notch would finally be a thing of the past.
At the same time, this should only be a temporary solution. Because Apple has, according to the Korean news site thelec.net Samsung tasked with developing Face ID sensors that stay hidden under the screen. However, these should not be used until 2025 at the earliest.
Until then, the Dynamic Island for Face ID will remain. Most experts assume that the fingerprint sensor will not return.
Periscope camera should allow higher zoom levels
With a periscope camera, the optical elements are installed horizontally or vertically in the housing. This enables zooming to longer focal lengths without having to make the smartphone thicker. Such a camera can be found, for example, in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra or in the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
Ming Chi Kuo assumes that such a periscope camera will also find its way into the iPhone in the 15th generation. However, he also estimates that the feature will be reserved for the high-end model – also dem iPhone 15 Ultra
Nikkei also reports that the new iPhones will use Sony’s latest image sensors. These offer a particularly high dynamic range. To do this, Sony uses a new semiconductor architecture that places transistors and photodiodes on separate layers to create more space for more photodiodes.
iPhone 15 still with Qualcomm modem chips
Apple is currently developing its own 5G modem chip to reduce its dependency on Qualcomm. Mark Gurman assumes the chips won’t be ready for 2023 and Apple will have to continue using Qualcomm’s modem chips.
In 2017, Apple sued Qualcomm. The reason for the lawsuit was that Qualcomm demands royalties from products with which they have nothing to do. In 2019, the proceedings were discontinued after the companies reached an out-of-court settlement.
Nevertheless, Apple would like to become more independent of Qualcomm and manufacture modem chips itself in the future – just not with the iPhone 15.
A17 bionic chip in 3 nanometer process
According to the Taiwan research company TrendForce the iPhone 15 models could be the first iPhones to have a chip manufactured using the 3-nanometer process. These are manufactured by TSMC and are said to be able to improve the performance of iPhones by around 10 to 15 percent. At the same time, power consumption is to be reduced by up to 35 percent.
In addition, TrendForce assumes that Apple will install eight instead of six gigabytes of RAM in the new iPhones.
Apple usually presents the new iPhones in September, which is why we can probably expect the unveiling in autumn this year. Until then, there will definitely be a lot of rumors and leaks that we will report on.
Apple is of course not only working on the smartphones of tomorrow, but also, according to some rumours, on its own search engine. You can read more about it here:
