MMOs have become rare in 2024, but with Pax Dei, a potential dream game for many medieval fans is about to be released. We explain what you can expect from Early Access Release in the huge open world and what you have to pay attention to.
When will Pax Dei be released?
Pax Dei will be 18. June 2024 launch into Early Access on Steam.
What is Pax Dei anyway? What can we expect?
Pax Dei is a sandbox MMO inspired by medieval mythology. Similar to the genre classic Ultima Online, the whole world is your playground and you can write your own story. For example, you can fight through dungeons as a warrior, make weapons and armor as a blacksmith, or design huge castles or entire villages as an architect.

Pax Dei looks outrageously good and promises a lot, but what can the MMO deliver?
We spoke to the developers at the end of May: They emphasized that the social component of the game should play a decisive role. Although you can make your way through the game world alone, many game mechanics are tailored to group play.
An example: Dungeons can only be completed successfully with allies. You can then give the recipes you loot there to the dedicated craftsmen in your group so that they can make better equipment for the fighters or sell it to other players to fill the guild coffers.
Those who enjoy mining ore, plowing fields and making cool stuff should be able to enjoy the game and make their contribution without ever appearing on the battlefield themselves.
Although it is possible to maximize all skills on a character, it will take weeks or even months to fully master a profession. The developers therefore recommend focusing on just a few of the 20 skills, as a specialist is more valuable than a jack of all trades.
Initially, around 8,000 players will be able to be online simultaneously per server. However, the developers are working on increasing this number to up to 20,000 players.
How much does Pax Dei cost? What is the business model?
For the release, Pax Dei three different founder packages offerwhich cost between 40 and 100 dollars. These contain various benefits such as additional character slots, additional plots for building and exclusive cosmetic items.
Important: After the early access phase, which is scheduled to end in July 2025, Pax Dei will use a subscription model, similar to classic MMORPGs. In addition to the purchase price, there will be a monthly fee that varies depending on the number of plots of land you want. How high this will be is not yet known.
There is also an in-game shop for cosmetic content. The developers promise that all customizations offered there will fit into the low fantasy setting without destroying the immersion. The developers have clearly rejected bunny costumes or sexy elf armor.
