Beta start: when does it start?
Date: Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous beta launches today, February 2nd, 2021.
Time: The beta starts exactly at 6:00 p.m. So by the time you’re reading this, it should actually work.
Duration: How long will the beta run?
There is currently no exact date for the end of the beta. For Wrath of the Righteous, however, a second spring beta is planned, which, according to Creative Director Alexander Mishulin of Owlcat Games, should run until shortly before the final release of the finished game – i.e. in June 2021.
Content: What does the beta offer?
The first beta for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous contains four of the total of six chapters of the main game and thus already offers over 50 hours of playtime. This means that almost all quests are available to players, while there are also some romance options.
In the beta you can also choose between six different “Mythical Paths”: Each of them should have a strong influence on the main story, in the finished game there should be a total of nine. There are also two different combat modes that you can try out: real-time with pause and turn-based.
Important information for streamers and YouTubers:
While the first three chapters of the Pathfinder beta are almost finished, the fourth is still in a more obvious beta state. Not all content is complete or even finalized here. This means that the recording and publishing of the content of the fourth chapter is blocked, while the previous three are free for transmission.
Also important: You will not be able to carry over your progress made in the beta into the final version of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous! So if you ever risk taking a look at the pre-release version, you have to start all over again for the release.
Just in time for the beta announcement, Owlcat Games has also released a new trailer that deals with the combat system:

Access to the first beta of Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous is given to every supporter who clicks on Kickstarter or as part of the slacker-backer campaign Minimum contribution of $ 99 contributed to the development.
Anyone who has not previously supported Pathfinder crowdfunding or has not reached the required minimum amount can still buy in now – but that costs: on the official homepage of Wrath of the Righteous is the early access for at least $ 114 to disposal.

Why a beta and not early access?
In our interview, Creative Director Alexander Mishulin explains why developer Owlcat Games decided to make Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous playable in the course of two betas and not in Early Access.
According to him, games in Early Access follow a games-as-a-service approach, which is suitable for a small studio like Owlcat Games would not be profitable and would be too costly. The overall goal for Wrath of the Righteous is after all to become a successful single player game. Keeping an eye on the early access version at the same time would be too time-consuming for the small studio.
Instead, Pathfinder is to be revised from version to version, as there is no risk of making an early access version “unplayable”. Instead, you prefer to concentrate on the feedback from the players, which you can devote yourself to so intensively over months.
