In the past, a number of mammoth projects that bordered on megalomania were realized in the block game. In addition to the fictional continent of Westeros from Game of Thrones and Los Santos from GTA 5, New York’s Times Square was already available in a day and night version.

The team belongs to »Build the Earth« community that has turned the obsession of »recreating the entire planet in Minecraft« into their hobby. Other major cities such as London and Bangkok have already checked them off, but in principle every volunteer can contribute their own favorite spot on planet earth.
with 2,793 active members the New York crew around the 21-year-old Frankfurt hobbyist Minefact is by far the largest building community in this community. It was also Minefact who developed the tool that can roughly draw streets and buildings within Minecraft using Google Maps data and thus monitors the accuracy in particular. The following applies: A cubic meter of the real world becomes a building block in Minecraft.
According to him, the whole thing works much better in New York than in his hometown, since the quality of the map data is completely different. So he put Frankfurt on hold for the time being and when Build the Earth opened its doors in March 2020, he integrated his “Minefact Network” into the overarching project.
So that the players don’t get bored with the construction project, which is designed to last many years, he rotates the districts to be realized weekly: first Chinatown, then via Tribeca to Bowery and back to Chinatown. In addition, you concentrate on the building facades and only do a few sights like that Grand Central Terminal an exception where the interior was also designed.

The second largest team builds Europey
In addition to New York, there are numerous other teams and individuals who are in 4,574 ongoing construction projects already 6,781 square kilometers cover our planet. The second largest team is dedicated to the no less ambitious goal of replicating the whole of Europey.
The 1,008 home builders involved are already taking care of Igolstadt, Ludwigshafen, Bochum, Würzburg and 224 other builds within Europey. If your fingers are itching to be part of this or another project, then do it just join their discord server.
