The future of the Dragon Age license and BioWare's workforce is once again thrown into disarray following this announcement that leaves players sad and nostalgic.
Dragon Age The Veilguard has welcomed its fourth update, bringing quality of life changes and bug fixes. But the real benefit of this new patch, available on consoles and PC, is the introduction of free content with two new skin tones, two armor colors and Hawk's outfit from Dragon Age 2. Now that the game is in the wild, BioWare can rest easy confide a little more about their vision for the future of the saga.
A key element will not be included in Dragon Age 5
No, Dragon Age 5 hasn't been announced by BioWare, but the studio has already given some hints about the sequel. In an interview with IGN, Corinne Busche, game director at The Veilguard, revealed that an aspect much appreciated by fans could return. “I expect these decisions, going back to Origins, will be important again. […] If you have seen the secret ending, some of the past events are relevant and it is easy to see how these decisions can and will be relevant in the future.”. In addition, the return of the hero of Ferelden is even being considered. “There’s something I’d like to explore if we find the right story to tell.”.
If this next Dragon Age game doesn't release for several years, we know that one of BioWare's key members won't be part of the adventure. Screenwriter Sylvia Feketekuty, who wrote the characters Josephine in “Inquisition” and Emmrich in “The Veilguard,” has left the studio. « Hello everyone, I'm sorry for being so discreet here. I was making a big decision, leaving BioWare. I will really miss working with everyone. But after 15 years, I think it's a good time to take a break. I will get back to your questions/comments before closing the account » announced this screenwriter of the Dragon Age franchise.
Sylvia Feketekuty, who also worked on a Mass Effect 2 expansion and Mass Effect 3, has left, and it's a loss that's already making Dragon Age fans sad for the next game. « I hope she continues writing. I really enjoyed Emmrich and Josephine »; « She was the star of Veilguard. We will miss her »; « It's very sad to see her go, but I also understand after so long in the same job »; « This is certainly a sign that the golden age is over. Nobody wants to stay there [chez BioWare] » Can we read about the departure of one of Dragon Age's screenwriters on Reddit?
