Amazon Echo: Manufacturer removes feature – no longer available from March

Anyone who likes to make phone calls via the Amazon Echo will have to do without a practical feature from March. The mail order company cancels it without replacement. There is a voucher as compensation.

With the smart speaker Amazon Echo, you can not only control your smart home via Alexa or ask Alexa to play music, you can also make phone calls via the Alexa speaker. However, the scope of the function will soon be limited. Because like Amazon on its website communicatesas of February 29, Echo Connect devices will no longer be supported.

Echo Connect was an additional device that made it possible to use the Echo speaker to call not only other Alexa devices, but also any landline and mobile phone numbers. From March onwards, you will only be able to use the Echo to make calls with other Echo devices or devices that have the Alexa app installed.

Echo Connect is being discontinued – this alternative exists

Anyone who has bought an Echo Connect will receive loud heise currently an email in which Amazon informs about the discontinuation of the service and offers a 10 euro voucher as compensation. The Echo Connect cost 40 dollars when it launched in 2018. The manufacturer does not give a reason for the discontinuation of the Echo Connect. In recent months, Amazon still had the device on its website, but listed it as “Currently unavailable”.

If you don’t want to do without Echo Connect, you will find an alternative in the Vodafone “One Number Caling” option, which is available in all GigaMobil, Red, Smart, Black or Young tariffs from 2016 and also allows your Vodafone tariff to use on other devices. This way you can connect your Alexa speaker to your Vodafone account and make calls via it.
