Yesterday, Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead unveiled the opening sequence of the game's first-ever crossover with PlayStation shooter Killzone, and since then there's been some serious backlash over the price players will be asked to pay for the new game. . Now, CCO Johan Pilestedt has confirmed that the gear was originally released as war bonds, before the studio requested it be released as a separate supermarket item.

As we reported yesterday, the biggest gripe players have with this Killzone gear is that the new Assault Rifle and Armor sets charge a rather high amount of Super Points individually. The total you see is about half to 6/10ths of a full Warbond per person.

Of course, the big question that disgruntled gamers immediately had about this thing was why it wasn't released as Warbond, which at least means one could lump all the Killzone stuff together and easily tell at a glance how they totaled it. A lot of money was paid. Even though – as some people on Reddit admitted – this probably won't stop people from complaining about the real issue, which is being charged high Super Credit prices.

As it turns out, leaks that suggested the collaboration would be a war bond rather than individual parts of supermarket gear were legit.

He wrote on Twitter: “Sorry you feel the price is too high and we are taking all feedback into consideration. The reason we changed it from War Bonds to War Bonds was actually because people were concerned that higher priced War Bonds would bring to the negative sentiment.” He also addressed the overall pricing trend of the game in another reply, writing: “This is an ecosystem that needs to be sustainable. If we make things you like, we can stay in business and stay in business. Make more of what you want to like…and then it just keeps going until it doesn't work and that's the end of the story.”

Meanwhile, after addressing some pricing criticism on the Helldivers 2 Discord server during the day yesterday, Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani continued into the evening, responding to more people.

One of the most notable things he said was in response to a player's question asking whether Sony has any influence over the pricing of items in the game. “Of course, it's a partnership, but we are the ones behind the decisions,” Jorjani replied. “The responsibility is on us.”

He also revealed, as part of explaining his point, that the more players buy gear like Killzone, the better the gear will be and Arrow will release free updates like Illuminate: “Omen of Tyranny We couldn't have done this unless you supported us with super credit purchases.”
