The latest entry in the Amnesia series is Amnesia: The Bunker, originally scheduled for release on May 16th.In a turn of events, developer Frictional Games delayed its World War I horror game by a week to May 23.
In an update shared with Frictional Games Twitter, the developer detailed that more time is needed to polish the game. “We’ve delayed the release of Amnesia: The Bunker by a week, and now it’s May 23rd,” the tweet read.
“This will give us more time to polish the game and make sure everything is perfect before launch. Thank you for your patience and hope you look forward to playing Amnesia: The Bunker. It will be worth the wait!”
Frictional Games rarely misses the mark when it comes to creating immersive and disturbing horror games. It gave us SOMA, a bunch of Amnesia games and the Penumbra Collection. Admittedly, recent Amnesia titles have felt a little lacking – maybe I’m tired of nostalgia – but Amnesia: The Bunker looks to return Amnesia to its terrifying form.
Amnesia: The Bunker is a first-person horror film set in — you guessed it — a desolate World War I bunker. As a French soldier, your every move is haunted by pervasive threats. You have to keep going, gathering resources and trying to stay awake while trying to keep sanity and vitality.
In a semi-open world, Amnesia: The Bunker looks very promising, inviting horror fans into a new setting while utilizing a new time-based mechanic to replace Amnesia’s once-popular sanity mechanic. I’m certainly looking forward to giving it a try, but what do you think?
Amnesia: The Bunker is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and PC (via Steam and Epic) on May 23.
