Gmail will be able to write our texts automatically thanks to AI.
We all know that artificial intelligence is on everyone’s lips these days. Additionally, many tech companies are trying to make their AI stand out. This time Google joins the game. This is how Gmail and Google Docs benefit from a tool that automatically generates text.
Specifically, Google has announced:
We are currently at a pivotal moment in our AI journey. Advances in generative AI have radically changed the way people interact with technology.
Gmail and Google Docs have therefore implemented a language model: an AI that allows you to write your emails and other texts and is already available for Workspace users.
Google joins the generative AI race!
Announcements about generative AI are pouring in at the moment. Of particular note is GPT-4, announced by OpenAI on March 14th. Google is involved in this generative race, albeit in the background for the time being. In addition, Google has already proposed its own language model called Brad, but it is not yet available. But hey, we might as well wait for Google’s annual conference, which will clarify this point. It should be noted that the Google I/O will take place on May 10th.
In addition, Google says it will launch more English-language experiments with select testers in the United States this month. And of course, if these are convincing, they will be extended to other countries and other languages.
Gmail and Google Docs: Smart Apps!
In addition, on Gmail and Google Docs we have always found the Smart Compose and Smart Reply functions, which in particular allow writing texts automatically and in context. Unfortunately, their skills are limited to a few terms, i.e. not to complete sentences.
On March 14, 2022, Google Workspace announced the availability of many AI writing features. In fact, Workspace users can try them now!
To make these new tools easier to use, Google has come up with services that you could request from its AI. For example: writing, answering, summarizing and even prioritizing e-mails. In fact, Google Docs can now reflect, proofread, write and rewrite! We can say that this is great news for people who are a bit lazy.
From now on, if we want to write on a specific topic, we are entitled to a draft on that topic, which will be generated automatically. Then of course we can edit it to refine the text. What’s more, you can even change the writing style to write a professional email. This AI also allows to lengthen or shorten the text or put it in list form.
Google still reassures its users
In fact, Google claims that its AI can of course be fake and that control is entirely in the hands of the user. Basically, the AI simply makes suggestions that you can accept or not and even edit and change.
After all, for now, all of these features are reserved for Workspace subscribers, which are mostly businesses.
