Announced years ago, the Hollow Knight sequel is eagerly awaited. To wait, a fan has made a real feat.

2D Metroidvania are legion in the world of video games. Many studios have tried, not all have shone. But in 2015 Moon Studios was able to do well with Ori and the Blind Forest, a game that is both quite challenging and poetic, with a visual and sonic universe that is as enchanting as it is melancholic. The game’s success led to a sequel, but also to a number of similar titles. Among them the excellent Hollow Knight, whose sequel is still awaited.

Hollow Knight was released in 2017. Its sequel, titled Hollow Knight: Silksong, was made official in February 2019. And if the gameplay was seen during two trailers, the title Team Cherry is very discreet. Also too much for the taste of some. So, a fan who wanted to get acquainted with the game’s engine, Unity, decided to create their own demo of the title. In a post on Reddit, “Team Cherry Took Too Long So I Made Silksong Myself”user Falcon175 shares a video about twenty seconds long. There are many assets from the first game, simplified the time of a short demo. For a job done in three days, the result is impressive.

Unfortunately, that’s all we’ll have to settle for while waiting for the real version of the game. For his part, Falcon175 wants to avoid problems. He therefore specifies: “This project was just a way for me to learn Unity. All assets are obviously owned by Team Cherry and this ‘game’ is not distributed in any way.”

A sequel that remains in the shadows
