Android phones that support Project Treble make it easier to install so-called custom ROMs. How to find out if your phone supports Project Treble.
Project Treble is a modular Android update system introduced by Google incrementally with Android 8.0. Instead of releasing Android versions that are completely adapted to specific device types, Project Treble manages Android in a modular way in two parts.
Google provides the hardware-independent software and provides the manufacturers with an update package tailored to the device. Both sub-areas can be updated independently of each other, which significantly accelerates the distribution of new software versions and thus also makes smartphones more secure.
So-called custom ROMs or Android mods with adapted Android versions are now mostly based on Project Treble and only adapt device-independent system areas.
If you want to install such a custom ROM based on Project Treble, you should check whether your phone supports Project Treble. The following steps show how you can check compatibility with Project Treble.
If you are planning to root your smartphone and are not yet familiar with it, our linked guide is a good starting point on the topic.
