pinnacle hero Just hit an all-time concurrent player high, surpassing the previous record of 100,000 players.
Apex Legends itself seems to be doing pretty well, as Kotaku discovered. That’s because, as recorded by SteamDB, the battle royale game has simultaneously hit a new peak player count, currently peaking at 624,473 players (Kotaku reported 610,433, so apparently it’s flat out above found for the first time). That’s an increase of more than 100,000, as the previous record for the game was around 510,000, set last August by the game.
A big part of the spike in player numbers is due to the recent launch of the game’s 16th season, Revelry. In particular, players seem pretty happy with the addition of a new mode that many have been waiting for: Team Deathmatch. Team Deathmatch is a classic mode that keeps players coming back to the fray, and it replaces the slightly controversial Arena mode.
Arenas was originally designed to allow players to learn the core game loop and then carry those skills over to the main game, but that didn’t work out, so Respawn hoped that Team Deathmatch would provide that instead.
Revel is also missing a new character this season, but having such a powerful new mode easily makes up for that. Most importantly, the game now introduces a career system that divides each character into five new jobs, Assault, Skirmisher, Scout, Control, and Support, each with its own unique bonus.
A new gun has also been added to Apex, the Nemesis, a power-rated assault rifle that fires four rounds per burst, the first new weapon to appear in the game since Season 11.
