Apex Legends hit its time like a bomb and has been successful in the competitive Battle Royale market ever since. However, there is still no specially optimized version of the online action game on the newer consoles – but that could change now.
It certainly wouldn’t be too big a surprise if developer Respawn Entertainment now also optimized Apex Legends specifically for the newer PS5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Nevertheless, there has not yet been any official announcement in this regard, although there are now signs of this happening.
So there could be a native game version of Apex Legends for the PS5 relatively quickly. Corresponding information has now been found in the depths of the PSN files. According to PlayStationSize, the data includes a PS5 entry for Apex Legends, which has a download size of over 80 GB without an update.
Since relevant information can now be found, at least one PS5 release could be imminent. The chance should then be high that a variant for the Xbox Series X/S will also appear in a similar time context. After all, Apex Legends has always been a multiplatform title with no preference.
Currently, the Battle Royale game can also be played on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S thanks to the backwards compatibility of the two newer platforms, but uses the native PS4 and Xbox One versions for this. A native version specially optimized for the new generation could bring a number of improvements such as even faster loading times, higher resolutions and better frame rates.
Respawn had at least confirmed in the past that a next-gen version of the successful shooter was in the works.
