A design similar to the iPhone SE 2020
The iPhone range in 2022 is therefore offering a new benchmark: after the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, here is the iPhone SE version 2022. This is the smallest iPhone from Apple , which is sold from $ 529 in the 64 GB version, but it is also the smallest. It is therefore equipped with a 4.7-inch screen, a diagonal that is becoming increasingly rare in the smartphone market but remains very popular. For comparison, the iPhone 13 mini has a 5.4-inch screen. But the iPhone SE isn’t much smaller than the 13 mini because its design is quite different. It picks up the design of the 2020 iPhone SE with its wide black bands at the top and bottom and its physical button equipped with Touch ID. Again, the presence of the Touch ID button should please many people. Also note that this new iPhone SE is reinforced on the front and back with the same glass as the iPhone 13. An IP67 certification is back, making it resistant to immersion in 1 meter of water for 3 minutes.
The smallest screen on the market
The screen of the iPhone SE 2022 is identical to that of the iPhone SE 2020 in all respects: in addition to the 4.7-inch diagonal, there is an IPS LCD panel with 625 cd/m2 brightness and a resolution of 750×1334 pixels. The refresh rate remains locked at 60Hz, but we find the iPhone-specific True Tone function that adjusts the colorimetric rendering to the ambient light.
A latest generation A15 Bionic chip
Where the iPhone SE 2022 stands out from its predecessor is on the performance side. The iPhone SE 2020 actually integrated a 2019 A13 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 11. This time it’s the A15 Bionic chip that we find, just like in the iPhone 11, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. So we should see a similar level of performance on the iPhone SE, although the lower RAM (3GB vs 4GB on the iPhone 13) could make a small difference. In any case, it will be more than powerful enough to run current 3D games and take advantage of the various features of the A15 Bionic chip, in particular the artificial intelligence processing units.
A single 12 megapixel photo sensor
When it comes to photos, however, the iPhone SE shouldn’t work wonders, especially compared to the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. There’s actually a single 12-megapixel sensor, but that’s helped by the quality of the software image processing specific to the A15 Bionic. No ultra-wide angle, then, or “cinema mode” like the 13 Pro, but still the ability to film in 4K at 60fps. On the front, the 7-megapixel camera appears to be identical to that of the iPhone SE 2020.
The iPhone SE finally supports 5G
The 2020 iPhone SE skipped 5G, but the (and still lucky) next-gen iPhone SE hasn’t. We also note compatibility with WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.
